To the editor:
I am writing to voice my support for the current resolution concerning the town’s plan for the property at 25 Watson Ave. I plan to vote in support of that resolution at the Financial Town Meeting on May 22, and I encourage voters to review the very informative FAQs and other materials provided by Town Hall at the following url:
barrington.ri.gov/361/2519/25-Watson-Avenue.
Having attended, over the last two-plus years, many of the town’s meetings concerning this property, the current plan is an optimal balance of the key features and priorities discussed during the various stages of review and planning. As a result of the important input from the local community, the current plan aligns closely with the town's voter approved comprehensive plan by maintaining the overall character of the neighborhood, while also creating new 55-plus housing with minimal ecological impact, preserves two acres of the most picturesque portion of the land as open space, and limits adverse impact on local schools. Importantly, the town also agrees to be responsible for demolishing the monastery building with the safety of the neighborhood set as the highest priority.
The passage of this resolution on May 22 will allow us to move on knowing that all the necessary due diligence and review has produced a plan that we can all take pride in.
Sincerely,
Edward Hawrot
Barrington
