Letter: New Metacomet proposal is evenhanded

To the editor:
I was very quick to criticize Marshall Properties for their heavy handed, take it or take it Plan B proposal for Metacomet Golf Course.

I wanted to be just as quick to applaud the latest plan put forth, which will maintain a 9 hole golf course open to the public, with a discount for EP residents to boot.

Along with the additional green/open space included in the plan, this appears to be an evenhanded, responsible use of the land. The city council should be applauded for taking a middle path which avoided the outright granting of the initial zoning modifications requested and avoiding the question of eminent domain.

If the planned residences end up including the 10% affordable housing requirement when all is said and done, I might go as far as to say that Marshall Properties is less repugnant than I initially thought.
