To the editor:
It would be surely a shame if the City of East Providence to lose the Metacomet property.
This iconic piece of property can never be replaced if allowed to be developed. It has become part of the fabric of the central part of the city for many years.
However, taking private property by Eminent Domain will be very difficult and expensive for the taxpayers for a number of legal reasons, specifically future financial loss by owners, needed public use, and private property loss. Tricky at best.
The City should float a bond issue and purchase the property at fair market value.
