To the editor:

As a Westport resident and business owner, I applaud your editorial last week ("One fine mess we've made") concerning street litter appearing beneath the winter melt.

Last year, my business Westport Camping Grounds, in partnership with Selectman Steven Ouellette, organized a community cleanup day to tackle this exact problem. As an outdoor recreation business, we take pride in the cleanliness of our camp and woodlands. Our campgrounds are spotless because I instruct staff and campers to be vigilant to any litter. And I wish to take this action to the streets of Westport.

So it is with great pride and an environmentally conscious business attitude that we invite any residents to join Westport Camping Grounds staff and several town officials for a street cleanup day.

This year we will meet at the Westport Middle School on Earth Day, Saturday, April 22, and Sunday, April 23, from 9 a.m. to noon (weather permitting). Westport Camping Grounds will provide the tools, gloves, collection bags, and neon yellow tee shirts (with our logo C.O.W — Clean Our Westport!)  for each participant. Please call 508-636-2555 or email us at westportcamp@aol.com if you can assist.

May I also take this opportunity as a business owner to challenge other Westport businesses to help with this project. We are all so proud of Westport's beauty. Let's work together to keep it beautiful!
