Letter: It’s true – elections do have consequences

To the editor:

I have one question for each of us to ponder as early voting starts leading up to Election Day on November 8th – do you think our town of Barrington is better off now than it was two and four years ago (at the time of the last elections)?

Before you answer, consider the following:

Are the members of the Town Council governing as you expected they would and does their voting record align with your priorities including decisions surrounding the purchase & use of the Carmelite Monastery, the exclusion of our local veterans from the town’s Memorial Day parade, and which flags can and cannot fly on the town hall flagpole?

Are the members of the School Committee making good judgements and providing transparent and diligent oversight of the school administration by supporting changes such as removing high school conceptual and honors classes, firing teachers, and holding illegal closed meetings?

Are our elected state Senators and Representatives well representing you such that you understand how they’ve voted on important matters and how such votes impact us and our town? Supporting truck tolls and opposing gas tax and electric rate relief and child protection laws are just a few pieces of legislation that have negatively impacted us.

I know my answer – No! Thankfully, excellent candidates for all these positions who are not aligned with the incumbents have come forth with the right focus needed to turn things around for our town and state who are committed to transparency and independence.

How about your answer?

Make your voice known with your vote on November 8th as it is crystal clear for Barrington that elections do have consequences.
