Letter: Is Jason Knight really an Independent voice?

Posted

To the editor:

Recently, Rep. Knight claimed to be an “independent” voice but could only offer one instance where he voted against leadership. Of course, he left one conspicuous second example out — his vote against the teacher sex bill. For some reason he chose not to highlight that one, possibly because it is infuriating and anti-child.

Knight voted with the Speaker in opposing:

• The Gas Tax Moratorium: just when we needed a break mid-summer

• Electric Bill rate relief: an idea now promulgated by McKee

• Low and middle income home heating relief

And voted with the Speaker in supporting:

• Corporate Welfare: the Superman Building and Pawtucket Soccer Stadium

• The Act on Climate: largely responsible for the 47% electric bill increase

Mr. Knight is not “independent”. He talks a good game but in the end knuckles under to the Speaker just like everyone else up there.  It’s time for someone new.
