To the editor:

I have heard people say that, while they are not fans of Robert Coulter and Justin Katz, they are not sure they will vote in the recall. After all, they have only got a year left and then they can be voted out.

I am not waiting and I will tell you why. As bad as the political and ethical shenanigans are, I see something bigger. I am more worried about the real problems that are not getting addressed. Under Mr. Coulter and Mr. Katz, the town council majority seems to be mostly focused on the airing of past grievances, pointless resolutions, and attempting to implement overly complicated administrative actions. 
All this wasted time, while they ignore real problems. The landfill will be closed by order of the state in November 2020 and we have no plan for trash pick-up. We do have a meaning Second Amendment Sanctuary City resolution that upset just about everyone. The solar ordinance? That is in a black hole and may never see the light of day.

They were able to force open the Executive Session minutes going back to the 1800’s where no doubt, Colonel Joseph Durfee is mentioned somewhere. This was done even though the town clerk was clear and concise that she does not have the funding, staff or resources to handle the workload. The casino is not generating the revenue that was projected and Twin Rivers is laying off staff — no need to fear in Tiverton. The council is working on a new employee manual. Hopefully they add a paragraph about how to pull $1 million or so out of thin air.

I urge you to go vote. If you choose to wait until the next regular election a year from now you may find that no one is picking up your trash, new residential developments are being tossed in here and there because we do not have a comprehensive plan in place, and when the state “unguarantees” our casino revenue share, we will have no one to blame but ourselves.
