To the editor:
The Scholarship Foundation of East Providence raises funds and administers more than 150 scholarships annually to local students. Our annual phone-a-thon reaches out to the community, netting more than $100,000 each year.
In 2024 our local scholarship organization provided nearly $313,000 to help East Providence students to continue their education. Each student received a minimum of $2,000. In the five decades since it was founded, our nonprofit organization has awarded more than $5 million dollars to more than 5,000 students living in East Providence.
But what is most important is that VOLUNTEERS DID IT ALL. Parents, teachers, professionals, retired and currently working local residents volunteer their time and talent to help ensure that educational opportunities are available for the youth in our city to attend college or career/technical school.
You can be part of this vital volunteer organization. We invite individuals who are interested in the future of young people, who enjoy working together on projects to help others, and who have time to share.
There is no pay, but the rewards are priceless. You can take pride in knowing that you helped shape the future of a generation – one student at a time.
If you would like to help, join us at our next meeting on Wednesday, April 30 at 6:00 p.m. in the Program Room at Weaver Library (41 Grove Ave., East Providence), or contact contact Louise Paiva at 401-742-2751 or at sfofeastprovidence@yahoo.com.
