To the editor:
The school committee did not receive all the funding that they asked for, so now they have produced a list of things that might no longer be available in the curriculum because of a reduction in the school budget by $246,000, the exact amount needed for the school start time plan. Some of the items were not popular anyway like a (“strategic planning consultant”).
But they will still go forward with the extremely unpopular school start time plan. When some students are worried about extracurricular programs like the math team and the Science Olympiad team, it looks like the school committee has recommended adjustments to athletic programs along with foreign language on the list for possible cuts.
Has the school system become an autocracy?
We have seen so many changes not only in continually rising taxes but also in the gentrification of this town and a disregard for things like zoning laws along with a humongous expensive school building on wetlands and a general disregard for the greater good of the population of Barrington.
