Letter: Good reason to ban Sousa’s belligerent postings

Response to Tiverton Town Council member Sousa's letter to the editor (Feb. 4):

Joe Sousa made numerous postings on the Don’t Mall Tiverton (DMT) Facebook page in recent days, many of which revealed that he did not understood what Legacy Development reps had said at the recent Town Council meeting.

For example, when DMT posted that Legacy had stated that they require a public/private partnership and will need funds from both the town and state, Joe posted, "I didn't hear that where do you get it?" and, "The town will not be asked to float bonds as I understand it." DMT responded by posting a link to the Sakonnet Times article that described the public financing request by the developer.

Unfortunately, Mr. Sousa was unable to keep his remarks on topic and respectful and soon resorted to name-calling. The first such post was simply deleted in order to give Mr. Sousa a second chance, but he quickly reposted the offensive comment. At that point, given his continued lack of respect and aggressive, belligerent tone, DMT banned him from the Facebook page, as is their right.
