It was nice to see the resumption of yard waste pick up in Barrington by MEGA Disposal this past week (Barrington Times: April 29, 2020). Apparently the Town is in discussion with MEGA regarding a “make up” of the dates missed in April. One suggestion was that the contractor continue its collection program into December.

I, for one, would be very pleased if this were to take place.

For those of us with late leaf-dropping trees, such as oaks, there are always plenty of yard materials to dispose of well past the normal end of scheduled curbside collection. In addition, Thanksgiving weekend is often a four-day time off from work and an ideal time to do the final cleanup. In fact December collections may well be beneficial to many residents on an extended basis. Monitoring of the use of this service at that time is easily accomplished and could dictate whether December collections are indeed worthwhile. Curbside pickup could alternate weeks if necessary if there is reduced demand. There is no doubt that for our household any type of extension would certainly be helpful.
