Letter: Congratulations to The Miriam’s new president

To the editor:

It was with great joy that I read in the Barrington Times, that after a national search, Dr. Timothy Babineau announced the appointment of The Miriam Hospitals chief nursing officer, Marie Ducharme, DNP, RN, as the new president of The Miriam Hospital. How fitting that after this past year of Covid pandemic, a nurse mainly educated by matriculating at Rhode Island nursing colleges would rise to this esteemed position.

The good news to come out of Covid 19 was the recognition of all the services provided by first responders and ALL people employed by our health care agencies. But as a nurse I am biased to the care provided by our nursing staff. As I would often say, it takes all members of the health care team to provide care for our patients, but nurses are the glue that holds quality, patient focused care together.

Knowing Maria, I know she will become a valued member of the Lifespan executive team and gifted leader of The Miriam Hospital. I am sure that all the nurses in Rhode Island join me in wishing you God speed Maria!
