Letter: Choose candidates who respect land use plan

Posted

To the editor,

After several years’ work and many meetings, Tiverton finally has an updated Comprehensive Community Plan. One of the purposes it serves is to protect the town from unwanted development by specifying appropriate land uses and zoning for different areas of town. These decisions about development and zoning are based on input from community members and represent a broad-based consensus.

We must also have Town Council members willing to support and uphold this consensus, however, especially in the face of pressure from developers demanding zoning changes antithetical to the Comp Plan. I believe the following Town Council candidates will respect both the Comp Plan and the will of the community it represents: Patricia Hilton, Denise deMedeiros, Joe Perry, David Paull, and Mike Burk. Please vote for them and for local control of development.
