To the editor:
The picture on the October 29 opinion page, about Lincoln Chafee’s withdrawing from the presidential race, is gratuitously offensive and insulting. After all, this happened a week ago: he was leaving of his own volition, so why was it needed to kick him as he was already out the door?
Why accuse him of “jumping ship,” in light of all the cheap abuse everywhere pelted upon him — holiday tree, metric system, family wealth, speaking style? He was and still is a man of dignity, principle, honor, and style, and deserving of far better journalistic treatment.
