I don’t know whether anyone else has noticed the irony of it all.
Last year everyone in town was fighting tooth and nail over school start (and end) times. It turns out that everyone won—due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Since virtual classes start later and no one has to physically get to school, all students get to sleep later in the morning.
Since there are no afterschool programs, tutoring, or sports, these activities are not impacted by late school end times.
Parents don’t have to worry about their older children getting home too late to babysit their younger siblings because everyone is home all of the time.
And the extra cost of the changed busing schedule did not materialize because there was no busing at all for three months.
Somehow this doesn’t feel like winning. I guess one has to be careful about what one wishes for.
