Letter: Are ‘transparency’ candidates being transparent?

Posted

I only caught the Town Council meeting on Monday, Jan. 13, on YouTube, and so may have missed something, but I didn't hear those candidates who ran on all that “transparency” explaining their votes to repeal the town-wide trash pickup ordinance.

Yes, they’re new to the council, but I’m sure councilors Reise and Patton were following this issue before being elected, and they had to know that repealing the ordinance would put the town in material breach of contract, putting us at risk of legal action and a potentially million-dollar judgement.

Why did they think it was worth it to our taxpayers to put the town at such risk? I believe residents deserve to understand the reasoning behind this kind of vote. If I missed something, please accept my apology and share your thinking. I’m sure I’m not the only one with this question.
