Letter: A resolution once and for all

Posted

To the editor:

I was saddened right before the new year started. I had heard in some states homelessness had become a crime. Then I got angry! The raising of prices on rents and other life necessities should be a crime! If we choose to let the power that be, ”money”, to keep dictating our lives we will all be living in the streets asking ourselves how did we get here.

It’s our choice to let go of the greed, the gossip and the jealousy and hold on to the people in our lives with compassion and empathy. If we could choose to put our humanity first and reach out with kindness, we could live in peace on earth.

This would be the great resolution once and for all.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
