To the editor:
It is understood that the nearly $1.4 million in ARPA money should first go to needed repairs of the town infrastructure and that it cannot go directly to tax relief. That said, at least some of the remaining funds could be spent in a way that would permanently bring down the town’s annual expenditures.
This could be done by spending at least some of the money on renewable energy projects that would lower annual energy costs now and in the future.
Using money that has to be spent anyway on the installation of solar panels on municipal roof tops could start to make a significant dent in the town’s energy expenditures. This won’t save the planet, although it would be a small step in the right direction, it most certainly would cut town expenditures which should translate into some relief for we the taxpayers.
