Marbleizing, a technique that imitates the appearance of polished marble, will be taught in a one-evening class at Made in Warren, the nonprofit artists' cooperative on Friday, November 8. Marbleizing has been employed since the Renaissance to embellish books and treasured objects.

The workshop will be led by Suzanne Lewis of Bristol, who promises lots of fun in the unique class, as participants learn to marbleize cards, bookmarks, and picture frames suitable for holiday giving.

Lewis is an award-winning printmaker who received her master's degree in teaching from RI College and studied further at the Rhode Island School of Design.

The two-hour class will begin at 6:30PM at the MIW gallery, 476 Main Street (Rt. 114) in Warren. It is appropriate for adults and adult-accompanied children over 12 years. Tuition is $25 ($20 for MIW members) plus $10 for materials.

Register at the MIW gallery or email suzannelewis@fullchannel.net.

Made in Warren, a winner of RI Monthly magazine's "Best of RI" and the Providence Journal's "Reader's Choice" awards, offers unique works of art as well as fine handcrafted gifts. As a "handmade in RI" showcase and emporium, all purchases are free of sales tax.
