Larry G. Niles, 65, Westport

Larry G. Niles, 65, of Westport, passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2020, at St. Luke's Hospital.  He was the companion of the late Louise Palmieri.

Born in New Bedford, son of Gilbert and Mary E. (Douglas) Niles, he had lived in Westport since 1994.  A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served his country in the United States Army.  

He was a communicant of St. George Church, Westport.  Mr. Niles did beautiful masonry work and he also enjoyed quilting.  He enjoyed singing country music and was a member of the New Bedford Choral Society.

He is survived by his dear friend, Elizabeth A. Ferreira.

Graveside service, to which relatives and friends are invited, will be Saturday, September 26, at Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport at 10 a.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Rd., Westport.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
