The Kickemuit Middle School girls soccer team fell just short of a perfect season, dropping a 3-1 decision to Bay View Monday afternoon.

The Huskies finish the regular season 8-1 after the disappointing loss, but sit in first place to enter the playoffs, which are expected to begin next week.

Kickemuit started fast Monday afternoon, jumping out to an early lead on Tori Coroa’s goal early in the first half. But despite controlling possession, keeping the ball in their own end for most of the first half, the Huskies were unable to put another one past Bay View goal keeper Sophia Hamel.

Bay View had few scoring chances in the first half, but took advantage of one of the two drives they put together. Forward Kaleigh Quinn showed off her speed virtually every time Bay View touched the ball, racing down the sideline and executing a perfect cross to Julia Lindenberg to even the game mid-way through the first half. Easily the tallest player on the field, Quinn outraced the Huskies and struck twice more in the second half to give her team the 3-1 win.

The Huskies had their chances, especially throughout the first half when the offense controlled the ball. Forward Mia Merritt kept Hamel on her toes, firing multiple shots at the Bay View keeper, narrowly missing two that clanged off the crossbar and the left post.

After the 8-1 regular eason, Kickemuit heads to the playoffs next week. The playoff schedule has not yet been released as some teams continue to finish the regular season.
