Joseph Esmond Hodder, Jr., loving husband of Elinor Allen Hodder, is in the peaceful presence of the Lord after his passing away at home on Sept. 18, 2013.

Joseph was born on Aug. 31, 1926 in Brooklyn, New York to Joseph Esmond Hodder, Sr. and Barbara Alice (Edel).

Joseph moved to Auburn, N.Y., at the age of 8 where he remained for many years. He graduated from the Annapolis Naval Academy and served in both World War II and the Korean War. He resigned as a lieutenant.

Joseph was an electrical engineer in management at the New York State Electrical Gas Company in Binghamton, N.Y for the majority of his professional career after the military until his retirement in 1987. He enjoyed retirement first in Bristol, R.I., followed by Tucson, Ariz., and finally in Waverly, Ohio. He was a resident of Bristol Village in Waverly.

Joseph enjoyed gardening in his leisure time as well as golf, reading, home repairs, exercising and swimming. He loved following studies of the Civil War. He was an avid football fan especially the Naval Academy and the Patriots.

Joseph was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by two daughters Barbara Krause (Gary) of Endwell, N.Y., and Elizabeth Moscuzza of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; two sons Philip Hodder(Judy) of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and John Hodder of Stuart, Fla. He also has two loving step-children, Joseph Blair (Mary Ann) of Ardmore, Penn., and Sherrie Thomas (Tom) of Malta, Ohio. His grandchildren he leaves are Philip Trofibio, Nicholas Moscuzza, Kevin Hodder, Kristina Caldwell (Dan), Thomas Blair (Keramet Reiter), James Blair, Abigail Blair, Matthew Thomas (Jilian), Maureen Thomas and Natalie Thomas. His great- grandchildren he leaves are Kade and Kensley Hodder, Lily and Wilhomena Caldwell, Philip Trofibio and Leiah Thomas. Joseph also leaves behind his sister Marion Barbara Ellis of Chester, N.Y., and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by his brother Richard Hodder and his son Joseph Hodder.

A memorial service will be held in the spring of 2014. Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Bristol Village Foundation of Waverly, Ohio.
