John Sousa Jr., 98, of Warren, RI, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021. He was the loving husband of Helen (Kuszej) Sousa.

Born in Bristol, RI, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Estrella) Sousa. Mr. Sousa was a veteran of World War II and a recipient of The Purple Heart Medal. He had worked as a carpenter/mechanic at Fulflex for many years. He enjoyed woodworking and loved to tinker with all things mechanical. He was a communicant of St. Mary of the Bay Church.

Besides his wife he is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Page (wife of the late Jeffrey B. Page) of Key West, FL, and Jane Swift and her husband Michael of Warren, RI; and two granddaughters, Stacy and Michaela.

He was also the brother of the late Joseph Sousa, Mary Silvia, Almerinda Silvia and Elsie Correia.

A private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wounded Warrior Project @https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org/

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
