John F. Costa, 82, of Bristol, passed away on Oct. 5, 2019, with his loving wife by his side.

Born is Furnas, St. Michael, Azores, he was the son of the late Joao and Isabel (Furtado) Costa. He is survived by his wife, M. Amelia (Silva) Costa, and daughters Elizabeth Danielson (David), Linda Gablinske (Wayne), and Melanie Cambra (Jonathan).  He was predeceased by his beloved son, John Thomas Costa, and sisters Piadid Tavares and Connie Canario.

In addition to his wife and daughters, he leaves behind eight grandchildren, Courtney Moody (Charles), Jocelyn Danielson, Victoria Danielson, Natasha Medeiros, John Thomas Medeiros, Hailey Gablinske, Zoe Cambra and Cody Cambra, and one great-grandchild, Connor Moody.  He also leaves behind his sisters, Teresa Mello, Dorothy Champigny, Fatima Medeiros, and brothers Manuel Costa and Lum Costa, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Upon immigrating to the United States, John set about achieving the American Dream. He worked in the construction industry, rising to the position of foreman at Dimeo Construction. His work with Dimeo afforded him the opportunity to travel to the Middle East as well as being part of building prominent buildings throughout Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

His absolute greatest joy, however, was to spend time with his family.

His funeral services were held Oct. 9 from the George Lima Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Marinaldo Batista at St. Elizabeth’s Church. Liturgical readings were by Courtney Moody and Christine Cabral. The Prayer of the Faithful was read by Alicen Ingle, and the offertory gifts were presented by Zoe Cambra and Cody Cambra. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Charlie Cabral, Joe Tavares, Walter Tavares, Mario Canario, John Costa and Taylor Scott.

Memorial donations may be made to: HopeHealth Hospice & Palliative Care, 1085 North Main St., Providence RI  02904.
