John F. Butler Sr., 67, Riverside

John F. Butler Sr., 67 of Riverside, passed away at Rhode Island Hospital on Sunday, December 12, 2021 with his loving family at his side. He was the husband of Kathleen (Keating) Butler for 33 years. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Francis and Catherine (Hammill) Butler.

Mr. Butler graduated from Bristol High School, Class of 1972 and then went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree from Providence College. He worked in sales for Arconium Specialty Alloys and later as a claims adjustor at the BeaconMutual Insurance Company.

John was a parishioner of St. Brendan’s Church in Riverside where he was a catechist for many years. John was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He loved to golf and was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Boston Red Sox. John volunteered for many years at PC alumni telethons.

He was very proud of his Irish heritage.

In addition to his wife Kathy, John is survived by his children: John F. Butler Jr. and his wife Alison, Erin K. Butler, Andrew R. H. Butler; his grandchildren Maeve M. Butler, John “Jack” F. Butler III, Rose C. Butler and other family members and friends. John was pre-deceased by his parents.

Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., Bristol, Monday, Dec. 20, at 9 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 330 Wood St. Burial will follow in Juniper Hill Cemetery, Sherry Avenue, Bristol.

Calling Hours will be held on Sunday, Dec. 19, from 2-5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name can be made to Knights of Columbus Charities.
