Joachim A. Weissfeld, of Barrington, R.I., passed away peacefully on Nov. 4, 2021, at Tockwotton-on-the-Waterfront. He was 94. Born in Wuppertal, Germany in 1927, he was the son of Samuel and Emma (Erb) Weissfeld.
He arrived in the United States in 1938, settling in New Bedford, Massachusetts. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1944. He was proud of his service, leading to a life-long interest in ships and the Navy. At the end of the war, he enrolled in Brown University, graduating in 1950. He then went on to Harvard Law School, graduating in 1953. In that same year, he married Mary (Morton) Weissfeld, to whom he remained married until her death in 2003. He lived in Barrington, R.I. for over 60 years.
He practiced in Providence, R.I. for his entire career. He was a respected and valued colleague at Hinkley Allen for over 40 years. He was a loyal member of the Hope Club in Providence and the Barrington Congregational Church.
He served on several boards in his career, one being the International Institute (Dorcas International Institute of Rhode Island) and another being Camp Fire Girls of America. Traveling, gardening, and reading were among his hobbies. His remarkable and full life were the basis for many a story.
He is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Hopper and Katherine McGrady, and three grandchildren. A memorial service is planned for summer of 2022.
To celebrate his love of birds, the family asks that donations be sent to the Audubon Society of Rhode Island.
