Jennie Parella, 98, of Bristol passed away on Monday, Jan. 29, 2018, at St. Clare’s Home in Newport, with her loving niece by her side. A lifelong Bristolian, she was the daughter of the late Francisco and Antonetta (Giordano) Parella.

Jennie loved being with her family. She always made people feel welcome and special, and was a terrific Italian cook. Her feistiness kept her active and she was able to get around independently until the end. She will be greatly missed by her family and the staff and friends at St. Clare’s.

Jennie was a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews, including her caregivers, Mary Parella and Sally Parella Battison. She is survived by her brother, Frank Parella of East Providence. She is preceded in death by her sisters, Virginia Parella and Catherine Vaccaro, and brothers, the Rev. Francis J. Parella, SSP; Fred, Gaetano and Salvatore Parella.

The family would like to thank the staff at St. Clare’s for their love and care and providing a joyful environment for Jennie’s last years.

Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., Bristol, will be held on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, at 9:30 a.m., with a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 141 State St., Bristol. Visitation will be on Saturday morning only from 9:30-10:15 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Clare’s Home would be greatly appreciated. Please designate either the activity or building fund. They can be sent to; St. Clare’s Home, 309 Spring Street, Newport, RI 02840.
