Jane Marie (Sylvia) Motta of Bristol passed away Friday Aug. 28, 2020, at Rhode Island Hospital. She was the loving wife of Joseph “Bobby” Motta Jr, to whom she was married for 56 years.

Born in Fall River, Mass., she was the daughter of the late John C. and Mary P. (Serpa) Sylvia.  She was a graduate of Bristol High School and worked as a technician for several doctor offices. Jane was a communicant of St. Elizabeth’s Church, where she was a member of the Daughters of Mary, Holy Rosary Sodality and the Holy Ghost Committee.

She was an avid Red Sox fan and a true Bristolian, and one of her favorite celebrations was the Fourth of July. Her most special and cherished times were preparing for holidays or family celebrations and was a generous supporter of many organizations.

She was always full of life and admired by everyone. She was greatly loved by all and will be truly missed but always in our hearts. She was the Matriarch of her family, a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, godmother and sister.

In addition to her husband,  she is survived by her children, Joseph Motta III and his wife Denise of Rehoboth, John Motta of Bristol, and James Motta and his wife Ann of Portsmouth. She was the loving and proud grandmother of Shane Donahue, Gabrielle, Hunter, and Casey Motta. She is survived by her sister, Linda A. Oliveira and her husband Joseph of Bristol, and sister-in-law, Eileen Sylvia of Bristol.  She is also survived by several godchildren, nieces and nephews, and her dog Pixie. She was the sister of the late John C. Sylvia Jr.

Her funeral was held on Sept. 2 from the George C. Lima Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Marinaldo Batista at St. Elizabeth’s Church. Liturgical readings were by Hunter Motta and Stephanie Rose Oliveira. The Prayer of the Faithful was read by Jane O’Donnell. Eulogies were given by Hunter Motta, Rose Mary Rogers and Elizabeth Medeiros.

Burial followed in North Burial Ground. Serving as pallbearers were Hunter Motta, Gabrielle Motta, Casey Motta, Jason Oliveira, Aimee Lynn Barros, Jeanine Oliveira, Ashley Oliveira and Mary Lou Gomes. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation,  30 East 33rd St. New York, NY 10016 or the charity of your choice.
