James J. Corbett II, 71, of Watertown, N.Y.

James J. Corbett II, 71, died of cancer on Feb. 24 in Rhode Island Hospital.

He was born in Watertown, N.Y., the son of Joseph and Betty Jean (McRobbie) Corbett.

Jim attended high school in Bristol and earned a BS degree from Jacksonville State College in Alabama. He served 20 years with the Army in Korea, Germany, and Ft. McClellan, Ala.

He married Luise Linke in Germany in 1971. He retired as a Sergeant First Class in 1990 and settled in Riverside. Jim worked for the Postal Service and several defense contractors.

He was an avid fisherman and shared that hobby with his second father, Alfred K. Fitting.

Jim is survived by his wife; his daughter, Simone (Jack) Kerr and their children, Jacob and Maxwell, of Atlanta, Ga; a son, Thomas (Jennifer) Corbett and their children, Lila and Kilian, of Charlotte, N.C.; sister, Lynn (John) Tavares, and brother, Philip L. Fitting (Martha), all of Bristol, and his brothers, Michael J. Corbett (Amy) and R. Patrick Corbett (Margaret) of New York.

His funeral was held on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, from the W. Raymond Watson Funeral Home, 350 Willett Ave., Riverside. Jim was buried with military honors at the Rhode Island Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Exeter. For online condolences please visit www.wrwatsonfuneralhome.com
