Irene R. Barboza, 97, of Bristol,

Mrs. Irene R. (Relle) Barboza, age 97, of Bristol, died peacefully Monday, Jan. 27, 2020, at Silver Creek Manor, Bristol, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late David Barboza, her husband of 64 years, who preceded her in death in August of 2019. 

Born in Bristol and a lifelong resident, she was a daughter of the late Edward H. and Eva (Normandy) Relle, Sr. A graduate of Colt Memorial High School, Bristol, she was a Laboratory Technician for Lloyd Manufacturing in Warren for 20 years and previously worked at the former Carr’s Manufacturing, until retiring a number of years ago. Irene was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, Bristol, and enjoyed line dancing and spending time on her computer. She was a great cook and sacrificed much for her children. 

She is survived by her three children, David E. Barboza, Dee Ann Netto (Marshall) and Paul S. Barboza, all of Bristol, and a grandson, Aaron P. Barboza (Sha). In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, John “Jack” Pimental, and her brothers and sisters, Edward H. Relle, Jr., Lorraine Mello, Constance Carmone, and Earl Relle.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, Jan. 30, 2020, at 11 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Wood St., Bristol. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bristol Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 775, Bristol, RI  02809.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
