The Tiverton field hockey team lost to South Kingstown, 3-1, in a Division II home game on Tuesday afternoon. The Tigers have been plagued by injuries this season and have now lost two in a row and currently stand in fourth place with a 2-2 record in Division II and 3-2, overall. 

Senior forward, Paige Klos scored the Tigers only goal on an assist by junior midfielder, Abby Parella. 

Tigers senior goalkeeper, Pauline Helger made 12 saves in the loss. “Pauline has shown a lot of promise,” said Tiger’s head coach Lauren Tavares. She played with a hamstring injury today.”

“The girls have been great,” Coach Tavares said. “We’re really battling a lot of injuries across the board.” The injuries have hindered both the varsity and junior varsity teams. Coach Tavares used half the junior varsity squad due to the team’s injuries on Tuesday. The Tigers have been flexible with constant changes in the roster and lineup. The team has also been trying their best to maintain positive attitudes, to help everyone learn and have fun despite the set backs, said Coach Tavares. 

“In a perfect world with everyone healthy, we would have a great team that can really hold their own if we make playoffs. I’m hoping we can get ourselves together by second half of season,” Coach Tavares said.

On the field 

The Tigers captains are seniors Ellie Flanagan, Grace Peckham, Molly Morash and junior Cassie Taber.  “Molly has really stepped up and found her place on the forward line,” said Coach Tavares. “She has found her voice and has really helped lead the team both on and off the field.” 

Offensively, the team is led by junior forward, Cassie Taber and junior mids, Sam Gacioch and Abby Parella. “Cassie is my strongest forward and has a lot of potential. She sets the tone for the other forwards.” said Coach Tavares. “Sam and Abby have found their confidence in their play and are becoming key players for the team.”
