Angela Lee scored two goals and had an assist to lead the Mt. Hope girls soccer team over Lincoln, 6-2 at Vendituoli Field on Wednesday evening. Jovi Goldstein, Maya Demello, Leah Oliver, and Tori Coroa also scored for the Huskies.

The win puts the team in 6th place in Division I with a record of 8-4-3 heading into the playoffs starting next week.

“It was a good effort from the girls. Everybody got in the game and played well,” said Head Coach Kerri Ferreira. “We’re peaking at the right time. The team has been playing well the last seven or eight games.”

Lee the Huskies striker, finished the season as the Divison I scoring leader with 16 goals. Both of her goals against Lincoln came in the second half.

The first came 5 minutes in when she picked up a through ball by Grace Greenslade on the left side of the field, she sped right, deked around Lincoln goalkeeper Amy Stevens, splayed on the ground, and kicked the ball into the net with her right foot.

Her second goal came 32 minutes into the second half, Lee sprinted by Lincoln defenders this time running right to left across the goal mouth, she dribbled by Stevens again, as she dove after her, and kicked the ball into the net using her left foot.

“At first I was struggling,” said Lee of her first half play, “But I came back in the second half. The goals were basically the same, I got good through balls from my teammates, then dribbling around the keeper and shooting it into the net.”

When asked about her ability to dribble and shoot with both feet, Lee said, “You have to be good with both your feet for this game.”

The Huskies honored their seniors, Sarah Withers, Krista Squatrito and Maya DeMello, during halftime. Family members were invited onto the field and were given flowers by their seniors.

Mt. Hope 1, Westerly 1

The Mt. Hope soccer team tied Westerly, 1-1, in their last home game of the season on Wednesday night. Max Bertsch scored early for Westerly. The score remained 1-0 till minutes into the second half when Nuno Amaral booted in a rebound to even the score at 1-1. The tie puts the Huskies in seventh place in Division II with a 9-3-4 record heading into the playoffs.
