The Mt. Hope High School wrestlers returned to mat for a Division I regular season match on Thursday, Jan. 16, in Providence where the Huskies defeated LaSalle, 52-19. The locals improved to 5-1 in league matches at the time.

Winners for Mt. Hope were as follows: Logan Sousa, 106 pounds, pin 5:15; Arion Ferris, 113, decision16-14; Bryce Brown, 120, pin, 1:29; Eli Francis, 126, pin, 1:21; Ethan Martel, 138, major decision, 16-3; Anthony Lombardi, 150, decision 4-2; Nick Rogers, 165, pin, 1:56; L.J. Pacheco, 175, pin, 1:14; Colin Maloney, 215, pin 3:40; and Ben Martel, 285, pin 1:53.

In addition, 10 Huskies traveled Woburn, Mass., to compete in the 2025 Woburn Invitational where freshman Kyle McCarthy captured first place in the 144 class to lead the locals to an eighth-place result in the 24-team field.

Lombardi was third in his grouping while Sousa, Francis and Ben Martel each placed sixth in their respective weights.

Of note, McCarthy's win continued success for the family in the event and weight division. His older brother, Andrew, also won the 144-pound class a year ago at the Woburn tourney.

Last Saturday, the Mt. Hope freshman won five bouts: by pin at 2:15; a tech fall, 18-0; an 8-2 decision; a 9-0 major decision; and another major decision, 11-1 over Tristan Lane of Shawsheen High in Massachusetts for the title.
