Senior gymnast Victoria Gendreau and freshman Meghan Oliver led the Huskies over Portsmouth, Exeter West Greenwich and West Warwick to close out an undefeated season and win the D-II
Championship in a four-team meet at Strive Gymnastics Sunday afternoon. The Huskies scored 135.35, Exeter West Greenwich 127.25, Portsmouth 120.2 and West Warwick 111.
Gendreau placed first in the all around with a score of 35.9. She also placed first in vault 9.3, bars 9.05 and beam 8.8. She placed second in the floor with 8.75.
Freshman Meghan Oliver placed first in floor with a score of 9.0. She placed second in all around with a score of 34.9 and came in second in vault 9.2, bars 8.0 and beam 8.7.
Freshman Jayme Foreman placed fourth in all around with a score of 32.45. She came in fifth on vault 8.55 and beam 8.35.
Freshman Kaitlin Quinn placed sixth in all around with a score of 32.1, placing fourth on beam 8.5 and floor 8.4.
Senior Kelsey Gonzalez scored an 8.0 on vault and a 6.65 on floor.
“Kelsey has improved so much from the beginning of the season. She has been a huge asset to our team. A model student-athlete who is hard-working and extremely supportive of her teammates,” coach Nicole Daniello said.
Sophomore Brianna Genreau had an all around score of 25.85, with a 7.9 on vault and a 6.65 on floor.
Sophomore Ashley Heald while nursing an injury, scored a 7.75 on beam and a 6.35 on bars.
Freshman Kaira Lawrence, Katie Donato and Emily Donato also contributed to the success of the team, Coach Daniello said.
“They all improved since the beginning of the season. They persevered when times were tough,” she said.
Senior Jordan Mastitis, who has been out with an illness since January, hopes to compete at the state meet on February 21, at RIC.
