The undefeated Mt. Hope tennis team won their sixth victory in a row, pulling out a 4-3 victory, at Classical on Monday afternoon. The first place Huskies are currently 6-0, in Division II.  With the win, head coach Geoff Keegan recorded his 100th win as coach of the girls tennis team in the midst of his twelfth season.  

After the game the players showed their appreciation by presenting Coach Keegan with a card, a “100 wins” sign, purple pom-poms and a foam finger gesturing “number one.” Coach Keegan is only the second coach in the school’s history to reach the milestone. The other is former basketball coaching legend, Domenic "Zip" Raiola.

“I am in good company,” Coach Keegan said. “I’ve been lucky to have had some of the best student athletes to come through the program and two great assistant coaches in Tim Thorpe and Maureen Gauthier throughout the last twelve years.”

“Geoff has been a pillar of support to the athletics program and a beacon of success in the tennis program,” said Mt. Hope Athletic Director Christy Belisle. “He has progressed the program from division III to division II, through leadership and positive coaching.  We are proud of his accomplishments and hope to support him in many more Huskies’ wins.”  

 “It's a nice recognition,” said Coach Keegan. “But it's about the student athletes succeeding and representing the school, community and tennis program with pride. That's the main hope of what I've accomplished at the helm of the program,” Coach Keegan said.

White, Quesnelle and first doubles remain undefeated 

First singles player, Elsa White, fourth singles player, Ella Quesnelle, and first doubles team, Emily Marino and Aditi Mehta are undefeated in D-II competition this season, at 6-0. Second singles player, Eva White and third singles player, Cate Merriam have one loss each. 

“Our singles players have been a strong suit for us,” said Coach Keegan. “For the most part we've been sweeping singles every match.” 

The Huskies still have ten regular season matches left, before the start of playoffs and have tough matches ahead against Middletown, Mount St. Charles and Portsmouth.

The Huskies play at Cranston on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. and host Lincoln on Monday at 4 p.m.
