Humberto Horta, 89, of Bristol

Humberto Horta, 89, formerly of Bristol, who had been residing in Palm Coast, Fla., for the past four years, passed away on Oc. 22, 2019, at Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He was the husband of the late Madeline (Neves) Horta.  

Born in St. Michael, Azores, he was the son of the late Jose and Rose (DaSilva) Horta. He is survived by his children, Doreen Sousa of Palm Coast, Fla., Joseph Horta of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Nancy Horta of Warwick, R.I., and son-in-law, Michael Baker of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He was the grandfather of Kerry Sousa, Joseph Sousa, David Horta Jr., Jason Horta and Amy Gomes, and great-grandfather of Madison Sousa, Mason Sousa, Nigel Gomes, Olivia Horta and Aubrey Horta. He was the father of the late David Horta.

Mr. Horta was employed by Royal Diversified for 28 years, retiring at the age of 85. He was the last living retiree of Carr Fulflex, where he worked for 30 years.

His funeral was held Oct. 28 from the George Lima Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Marinaldo Batista at St. Elizabeth’s Church. The offertory gifts were presented by Joseph Sousa and Michael Baker, who also gave the eulogy.

Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Joseph Sousa, Joseph Horta, Michael Baker, David Horta Jr, Myles Gomes and Thomas Macedo.
