Grand jury returns indictments of two East Providence residents

PROVIDENCE — The Office of Attorney General announced Tuesday, Oct. 2, Providence Grand Juries returned indictments of East Providence residents in separate incidents of robbery and assault.

Matthew Torres, 20 and of 26 Mountain St., was among two men charged with one count each of first degree robbery and one count of conspiracy. Also charged was Aiden Childress, 22 and with no permanent address.

It is alleged that on or about June 25, 2018, Messrs. Torres and Childress robbed an individual with the robbery being in the first degree. The alleged incident took place in Providence and the Providence Police conducted the investigation. Both men are scheduled to be arraigned in Providence County Superior Court on October 24.

Also, Mario Aponte, Jr., 42 and of 13 Lincoln Ave., was charged in a secret indictment with one count of first degree child molestation.

It is alleged that on or about a date between February 1, 2017 and August 31, 2017, Mr. Aponte sexually molested a person 14 years of age or under with the molestation being in the first degree. The alleged incident, likewise, took place in Providence and the Providence Police conducted the investigation. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Providence County Superior Court on October 10.
