Golden Eagles crowned at BHS Homecoming

Barrington celebrates homecoming, as BHS beats Moses Brown 20-0

Hayley Gasbarro and Owen Valentine are Barrington High School's first-ever Golden Eagles.

This year, Barrington High School opted to replace the traditional homecoming king and queen titles with a more inclusive, gender-neutral recognition: Golden Eagles. In a recent interview, Barrington High School Principal Joe Hurley said members of the student council had proposed making the change after talking about the idea for more than a year. Mr. Hurley added that when the idea was discussed with members of this year's homecoming court, they were "100 percent behind this."

The end result was on display during Friday night's homecoming celebration, which included a parade and Golden Eagles crowning ceremony during halftime of the Barrington High School football game.

After members of the homecoming court were announced in front of the large BHS crowd, this year's Golden Eagles were honored. Hayley and Owen both proudly accepted the titles and were congratulated by fellow members of the senior class.

Meanwhile, the Barrington High School football team marked the special night with a 20-0 victory over Moses Brown.

Eagles roll

Barrington opened a 13-0 halftime lead against Moses Brown in a Division I showdown at Victory Field on Friday night, and rolled to a 20-0 victory.

Barrington wide receiver Cole Reed and quarterback Brigham Dunphy continued their scoring streak, as Dunphy and Reed combined for a 52-yard scoring strike against the Quakers. Will Sanchez booted the extra point through the uprights.

Dunphy tallied his second touchdown pass of the game when he found Jon Adamson for a 48-yard TD. The Eagles' third score came after Charlie West recovered a blocked punt for a touchdown.

The win improved the Eagles' Division I record to 2-4 with one league game remaining. Barrington's overall record is 3-4. Moses Brown fell to 0-6 with the loss.

Barrington will travel to Providence for a game against LaSalle Academy on Friday night at 7 p.m. LaSalle is 4-2 in Division I standings, having defeated South Kingstown, Moses Brown, Central and Portsmouth this season. The Rams' losses came against Hendricken and Cranston West.
