Girl Scouts, YMCA support Buy Nothing Day

Local scouts collect more than 120 items

Barrington Girl Scout Junior Troop 551 recently partnered with the Bayside Family YMCA to support the Buy Nothing Day Coat Drive.

The girls planned and executed a coat drive at Hampden Meadows School and delivered 120 winter gear items to the Bayside Family YMCA on the Wednesday afternoon before Thanksgiving.

Happening every year on Black Friday, Buy Nothing Day celebrates giving, rather than spending. Those in need of warmth are welcome to go to the Bayside Family YMCA to pick up gently-used winter gear.

Girl Scouts involved with the event included Alexandra Affronti, Grace Fontaine, Carmela Arden, Libby Magendantz, Mollie DeClercq, Paige Farrell, Gabby Watkins, Sophie Bae, Julia Gaskell and Rose Rakeman.
