Gil DeMelo Amaral, 90, of Bristol

Gil DeMelo Amaral, 90, of Westwood Road, Bristol, passed away on Aug. 28, 2020, at home. He was the husband of the late Zelia (Borges) Amaral.

Born in Povacao, St. Michael, he was the son of the late Joao deMelo Amaral and Francelina (Pimentel) Amaral. He was the father of Lucy (Joe) DaSilva, Gil (Marie) Amaral, Lubella Amaral, Donald (Sherry) Amaral, Tony (Holly) Amaral, Dorothy (Hector) Valenzuela and the late John C. Amaral. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Elsa Amaral-Ribeiro.

He was the grandfather of David DaSilva, Joseph DaSilva, Sarah DaSilva, Jennifer Amaral, Kristine Amaral, Derek Vieira, Chelsea Vieira, Joshua Amaral, Shawn Amaral, Brian Amaral, Meghan Franco, Shana Grundy, Kyle Valenzuela, Kevin Amaral and Melissa Messier; and great-grandfather of Calvin DaSilva, Malcolm DaSilva, Jordan DaSilva and Olivia DaSilva, Mason Fleury, Aiden Braga, Paisley Amaral, Zoey Amaral, Alannah Amaral, Dylan Amaral, Paige Messier and Jaxon Franco. He was the brother of Rosa Maria Amaral, Joao Amaral, Fatima Cabral and the late Virginio Pimental Amaral.

Mr. Amaral was employed by Converse and Robin Rug before retiring.

His funeral services were held on Sept. 1 from the George Lima Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Joseph Upton at St. Elizabeth’s Church. Liturgical readings were by Sarah DaSilva and Sherry Amaral. The Prayer of the Faithful was read by Kevin Amaral, and the eulogy was given by Lucy DaSilva. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Kevin Amaral, Brian Amaral, Joshua Amaral, Kyle Valenzuela, Joey DaSilva and Jose Carlos Amaral.
