George R. Gousie, 79, Tiverton

Dr. George R. Gousie, 79, of Tiverton, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 8, 2019. He was the husband of Gail M. (Boynton) Gousie.

He served in the United States Marines during peacetime and worked in the banking industry for many years, retiring from Rockland Trust as vice president of the cash management department. He was also a professor at Johnson and Wales University for over 30 years. He was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and the former president of the Johnson and Wales Alumni Association.

In addition to his wife, survivors include nine children, Mark Gousie and his fiancé Elizabeth Floen of Tiverton, Christine Crawford and her husband Joseph of Florida, Bruce Gousie, also of Florida, Kimberlee Glenn and her husband Thomas of Seekonk, Roberta Gousie and her husband Kristian Robinson of Middleboro, Mary Snow and her husband Edward of Cumberland, Shawn Benjamin Gousie of Brockton, Rachelle Correia and her husband Joseph of Somerset and Megan Gousie of Berkley; 15 grandchildren; one great grandchild; one brother, Joseph Norman Gousie and his wife Addie of Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews.

He was the father of the late Todd and Jason Gousie and brother of the late Laurent and Lucien Gousie.

His funeral and burial will be private

Arrangements are in the care of Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, Fall River.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
