George D. “Dougie” Delmage, Jr., 61, of Franklin Street, Bristol, died peacefully Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at his home, surrounded by his loving wife, children and dogs. He was the husband of Martha C. (Costa) Delmage, his wife of 35 years.
Born in Providence, a lifelong resident of Bristol, he was the son of George D. Delmage of Bristol and the late Hilda (Alves) Delmage. Dougie was an automotive mechanic. He worked for seven years for Watkinson’s Automotive of Bristol, retiring due to illness just this past April. He previously worked for Bristol Auto Body, King Philip Motors, Fox Toyota and was the owner and operator for a number of years of the former Delmage Automotive in Bristol.
Doug enjoyed cars, his motorcycle and NASCAR racing. He will always be remembered as always willing to help anyone who needed him. Nothing was more important to him than spending time with family and friends.
His daughter Colleen writes, “I love you daddy, I’ll miss your corny jokes, your laugh, the way you always went out of your way to help others, coffee deliveries, your love for cars and being the only one to know how to fix anything in a car, always complemented me when I was dressed up, your love for junk food, but most importantly your love for Elizabeth, Douglas and I. I hope you are looking down on us all and driving your Harley through the pearly gates. I love you dad, breath easy.”
He is survived, in addition to his wife and father, by three children, Elizabeth M. Delmage of Bristol, Douglas A. Delmage (Michelle) of San Francisco, Calif., and Colleen N. Delmage (Matthew Mitchell) of Bristol; a sister, Nancy Delmage-Tavares (Joe) of Bristol; and his beloved dogs, Elton, Presley and Pearl.
