George Carvalho, 77, Tiverton

George Carvalho, 77, of Tiverton, passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, February 9, 2021. He leaves behind his wife of 57 years Nancy (Roderick); his daughter, Donna Marie Truppi (Paul); his grandchildren, Elizabeth Carvalho and Kevin Goulet (Amy); and his great grandchildren, Adriana Carvalho, Samantha and Madison Goulet. 

He was the brother of Alfred Carvalho, Elaine Gajoli (Ray) and the late Manuel, Nicolas, Elison, Antone, Leo, John, Dennis, Joe, William and Thomas Carvalho, Mary Amaral, Irene Ferreira, Beatrice Chase and Evelyn Gleaton, and many nieces and nephews. 

George worked for many years at O’Day Boat. He also worked on the family farm and the family business, Rocky Knoll Group Home. 

George will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew him.

Visitation is Thursday, Feb. 18,  from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Pocasset Memorial Funeral Home, 462 Main Road, Tiverton.  www.almeida-pocasset.com.  

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ASPCA at  P.O. BOX 96929, Washington, DC 20090 in his memory.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
