George Amaral, 86, of Bristol

George Amaral, 86, of Eisenhower Court, Bristol, passed away on March 24, 2020, at Heatherwood Health Care Center. He was the husband of Barbara (Souza) Amaral.

Born in Bristol, he was the son of the late Antone and Rose (Cabral) Amaral. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Paula Parella and her husband Frank, Wayne Amaral and his wife Cidalia, Sandra Harper and her husband David, Mark Amaral and his fiancé Christine, Russell Amaral and Gary Amaral. He was the grandfather of Matthew Parella, Marissa Parella, Michaela Parella, Brad Amaral, Tiffani Amaral, Mallory Amaral, Kendra Oliveira, Sarah Oliveira, Jared Harper, Brianne Harper, David Harper, Pamela Harper, Kaeleigh Digon, Ashley Amaral, Meghan Amaral, Hannah Amaral, Chelsea Amaral, Devyn Amaral and Alexandria McCain; and great-grandchildren Mason Parella, Brycen Parella, Aubree Amaral, Eliana Oliveira, Aleena Oliveira, Alana Oliveira, Alia Harper, Kiley Harper, Chloe Harper, Chase Harper, Carly Harper, Cally Harper, Rylan Toye, Zoey Toye, Addison Dorian, Daphne Dignon, Colin McCarthy and Piper McCain. He was the brother of Pat Franco, Veronica Lull, David Amaral, Edward Amaral and Richard Amaral.

Mr. Amaral was a graduate of Colt Memorial High School and employed by Lloyd Manufacturing before retiring.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be held on Monday, June 29, at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood St.  Burial will be private.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
