Another year, another record fell at the annual Southern New England Giant Pumpkin Growers’ Weigh-Off held Saturday, Oct. 10, at Frerichs Farm in town, this time, though, an even more impressive mark was set.

A familiar contestant, Ron Wallace of Greene, RI, not only set a new standard locally and nationally, his entrant in the 2026 competition broke the existing world record by coming in at an astounding 3,156 pounds.

Greene's pumpkin bettered the former record weight of 2,856.8 lbs, grown by Ian Paton of Lymington, Hampshire, England.

Of note as well from the weigh-off, which took place under near idillic early fall conditions at Frerichs' last weekend, Joe Jutras, of Scituate, once again won the green squash division championship as he did a year ago with a record-setting entry.
