WARREN —Burr's Hill Park was brimming with activities on a steamy, sunny Saturday morning, June 21, as three organizations from the town hosted their annual "Summer Kickoff Party."
The party, sponsored by the George Hail Free Library, the Parks and Rec Department and the town's Heath Equity Zone, included games, arts & crafts, live music, bouncy houses, Tommy James' Magic Show, face painting by Alana, a Warren Fire Department Touch-a-Truck, a Nature Learning Loop, and labyrinth among other activities.
Save for a falter electrical wire that downed one of the two bouncy houses on offer for the kids, the day went off pretty much as hoped by the organizers.
"The event went very well and having all three organizations work together was fantastic," said Warren Parks & Rec Director Tara Thibaudeau. "Next year will be even better. I am hopeful to have more community events at Burr's Hill now that we have the set up that is there."
The party really did start a season's-worth of programs offered by the three groups.
Parks & Rec hosts a bunch of sports offerings from tennis and pickleball lessons to youth basketball and soccer leagues to an adult women's softball league.
The town's summer camp at Burr's Hill begins Wednesday, June 25. Also, the groups collaborate on a summer mentor program.
