EAST PROVIDENCE —

The latest endeavor between the city and the community group East Providence Urban Forest took place last week when a dedication and opening ceremony of a new native tree grove behind Whiteknact Elementary School alongside North County Street took place on Monday, May 23.

The grove was funded by a TD Bank Green Space Grant awarded to the City of East Providence and E.P. Urban Forest in 2021 when the planting took place. The grove features 12 native trees indigenous to our area and will serve as an outdoor classroom and community space.

Members of the Pokanoket Nation helped dedicate the grove along with Whiteknact students and staff as well as school and city officials.
