Godbout, Nencka are crowned king and queen for 2026

The 2026 Mt. Hope High School Homecoming Court was announced at halftime of the Huskies' football game against visiting East Greenwich Friday night, Oct. 9, at Veterans Field in Warren.

Two senior student-athletes were selected for the top prizes as Jack Godbout and Sara Nencka were chosen as the King and Queen.

Godbout, who plays hockey and lacrosse, was nominated from the school's E-Board while Nencka, who plays soccer and golf, was put up by the National Honor Society.

Brooke Sousa and Benjamin Neverka-Vinciguerra were the first runners-up. Addison McMillan and Matthew Abelha were the second runners-up with Mekayla Neves and Parker Oliver third and Kyleigh Durette and Maleaq Roderick fourth.

The final tally was based on contestant interviews with the Homecoming committee in addition to votes by the MHHS staff and their student peers.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
