EAST PROVIDENCE — Saturday night, May 25, officials, family, friends and alumnae of the program gathered to salute retiring East Providence High School softball coach Rob Traverse, who is stepping the from the position this spring at the completion of his 20th season.

The field on the EPHS campus, which Traverse worked so diligently to renovation several years ago, was named in his honor prior to the start of the Townies' Division I contest against visiting North Smithfield.

A placard reading "Traverse Park" was placed atop the scoreboard in left centerfield. Following construction of the new EPHS, which expected to be completed by the fall of 2021, the softball complex will maintain Traverse's name going forward.

East Providence Post editor Mike Rego took the accompanying gallery of photos from the event.
