The Townies drop a Division I contest to Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH — The sputtering East Providence High School boys' soccer team dropped its fourth consecutive Division I outing in row when the Townies fell to host Portsmouth, 4-0, on a wind swept Friday afternoon, Oct. 4, at the Patriots' Kennedy Field.

The locals dipped to 2-4-3 with 9 points in the league standings, still four short of earning the 13 required to qualify for the postseason.

According to EPHS head coach Tony Vieira, the Townies failed to convert on a couple of first half chances with the wind in their favor and the game remained scoreless to intermission.

In contract, Portsmouth made the most of its opportunities with the breeze at the Pats' back in the second half, scoring all four of the game's goals in the final 40 minutes.

Still, Vieira credited his keeper Andrew Mongeon for his effort in the contest. He finished with 10 saves.
